EXCEED THE REALITY

Hello, this is Melek. As the year 2024 draws to a close, I am excited to present my last assignment of the year. Now, please imagine yourselves walking on the ancient stones of the Colosseum in Rome. Everything feels incredible. What if I told you this experience was possible but in a more affordable and realistic way? Then let me introduce the VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) technologies. While VR immerses users in a virtual environment, AR enhances reality by using digital elements. VR typically requires headsets to achieve this whereas AR uses AR apps, moving images and so on to enhance reality. These technologies also can be quite useful when it comes to second language acquisition. Here is how: engagement, cultural exposure, and immersive learning. For instance, these two notions can make lessons more interactive and engaging. As a result, it can lead to increased student attention and participation. Another aspect is that they can enable students to visit different countries and help them gain more knowledge about their cultures. However, there are two drawbacks that we must think about. The first one is access as VR gadgets can be quite expensive. The other one is the distraction factor. Students can get distracted easily and diverge from the purpose of the courses. So much for introducing these tools.

Now let's talk about the assignment. This time we were supposed to create an augmented/virtual reality integrated teaching material. I personally liked this one because it required us to introduce a city to our students and as a diverse culture enthusiast (if there is such a term) this excited me so much. My friends and I chose Rome, Italy to introduce. Firstly we decided on the the museum, two historical sites and a food to present. Then we searched for AR videos to enhance our students's reality and have them get a real-life-like experience as if they were visiting these places. Before moving forward, I want to mention that I also gained more knowledge about this city which shows me that this assignment can indeed be engaging and educational for students, so, if my chance permits, I would like to visit it during my Erasmus+ Programme. Then, we decided on some interesting questions and then created a homework project that required students to write an e-mail to their friends. We used Canva for our worksheet designs and 360stories for AR videos. I think the only problem we faced along the way was trying to find AR materials. However, we were lucky to stumble across this site.

I thinks these are all the things I want to mention in this post. If you are curious about this task and want to see it in detail, I will leave a link. Thank you so much for stopping by. Take care. AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!────୨ৎ──── (a cute bow from me.)
